In our workshop, you will work on a case about subsidence in the municipality of Emmen. Emmen, a municipality in the northeast of the Netherlands, has a water and soil system shaped by natural processes. Due to climate change, the current water and soil system is reaching its limits. Drought and heavy rainfall are increasing, causing problems to occur more frequently and the negative consequences, like subsidence to be greater. In Emmen, there are particularly risks in the supply of water and lower groundwater levels during drought. The objective of this workshop is to propose measures to solve the subsidence problems in Emmen, using water and soil as the basis for the design.
